FAQ
1. Product Specifications
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE SQUAREONE?
- 11" long x 6" high x 5" wide - with the stainless-steel cap on
- 12" long x 9.5" high x 5" wide - with the tap and party-tap-adapter
- 13" long x 9.5" high x 5" wide - with the tap and faucet/draft handle
HOW MUCH DOES SQUAREONE HOLD?
- It holds an impressive 128+ ounces (just over 1 gallon). That’s almost a full 12-pack of beer, 5 bottles of wine, or 20+ mixed cocktails at a time!
WHAT IS SQUAREONE MADE OUT OF?
- The SquareOne is constructed from premium single walled stainless-steel.
2. Pressure, Gas & Safety
WHAT IS THE MAX USAGE PRESSURE?
- The maximum recommended usage pressure is 20 PSI for the Standard SquareOne keg and 45 PSI for the SquareOne-Nitro keg (coming Q4 2026).
WHAT GAS DO I NEED? WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
- CO₂: Used for carbonated beverages. It helps maintain carbonation and keeps drinks fresh and fizzy.
- Argon: Used for wine and non-carbonated beverages. It prevents oxidation while the beverage rests in the keg, keeping it fresh longer.
- Nitrogen (N₂): Used for creamy nitro beverages. It produces smaller, finer bubbles than CO₂. Nitrogen is only compatible with the SquareOne-Nitro keg (coming Q4 2026).
WHAT TAPS AND GASSES ARE COMPATIBLE WITH EACH SQUAREONE® KEG?
Standard SquareOne®
- Ideal for craft beer, wine, and cocktails/mocktails.
Compatible with: Standard Tap and Party Tap Adapter.
Compatible gases: CO₂ and Argon.
Note: Not compatible with Nitrogen or the Nitro/Stout faucet.
SquareOne-Nitro® (Coming Q4 2026)
- Ideal for nitro cold brew, espresso martinis, and nitro cocktails.
Compatible with all taps and all gases, including Nitrogen.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL USAGE PRESSURE FOR DISPENSING CARBONATED BEVERAGES, SUCH AS BEER?
- Start with a lower PSI of maybe 1-3 for the first couple pours, then increase as needed until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for the particular beverage. The 5-7 PSI range is what we find works well with most beer types, but titrate up or down as needed. For example, most enjoy mixed drinks at a higher PSI.
- Max pressure is 20 PSI for safety.
3. Using & Operating the Keg
HOW LONG DOES ONE CARTRIDGE LAST?
- How long a cartridge lasts depends on storage time and PSI. One CO₂ cartridge typically lasts for an entire gallon fill. Argon usually takes 1.5–2 cartridges, and Nitrogen will take 3–4 (coming Q4 2026).
I NEED TO REFILL MY KEG, BUT THERE IS GAS LEFT IN MY CARTRIDGE. CAN I USE IT AFTER THE REFILL?
- You can use your current gas cartridge for your next keg refill, if your keg is empty and there is gas leftover in the cartridge. First, ensure that the regulator valve is closed by turning the regulator to the OFF position. Then pull the pressure release pin, prior to opening the keg and removing the tap. You can then refill your keg and use the remaining gas after the refill. Note that you must leave the existing cartridge attached to the regulator during this process. Also, ensure that the regulator remains in the OFF position until you follow the steps to re-tap the keg; if you leave the regulator in the ON position when adding or removing a CO2 cartridge, or during the initial oxygen-purging step, it can cause the regulator to break.
WHY IS THE FIRST POUR A LITTLE FOAMY?
- Because although SquareOne is small, it still behaves like a keg. There are a few things that can help with foaminess though. First, after filling or transporting your keg, allow the beverage to settle for a bit before tapping. If you are pouring from a bottled/canned beer, it is foamier, so using a funnel to pour into the keg helps. Start with a lower PSI and adjust up after the first pours. Also, ensuring that you open the tap handle all the way when dispensing also helps eliminate foam during the pour.
WHAT IF I NEED TO DECREASE THE PSI?
- If the beverage was initially tapped at too high of a PSI. There may have been too much gas initially added into the keg, thus infusing the beverage with too much carbonation, which could cause excessive foaminess. The purge-valve will need to be used if needing to decrease the pressure. The regulator sets the pressure that goes into the keg, and the purge-valve will allow you to release any pressure. For example, if you have the pressure set to 10 PSI, but you want to decrease it to 5 PSI, first change the regulator setting to 5 instead of 10. Then, pull the purge-valve a tiny bit until the pressure decreases down to 5. The regulator will regulate the pressure from there, adding more gas (if needed) to maintain the 5 PSI setting. To eliminate going to too high of a PSI and over infusing the beverage with CO2, we recommend starting at a lower PSI and then increase as needed, until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for that particular beverage.
HOW TIGHT DOES THE TAP SYSTEM CAP NEED TO BE?
- The tap system cap does not have to be tightened metal-to-metal to seal properly. Our design allows the O-ring to create a full seal before it becomes fully tight. Screw it in until you feel resistance from the O-ring — that’s when it is sealed.
4. Beverages & Compatibility
WHAT KINDS OF BEVERAGES CAN YOU PUT IN SQUAREONE?
- TAKE YOUR KEG TO HAVE IT FILLED WITH CRAFT BEER FROM A LOCAL BREWERY OR GROWLER STATION. YOU CAN ALSO BATCH WINE, CHAMPAGNE, AND COCKTAILS. EVEN NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINKS, SUCH AS ICED-TEA, SODAS, AND MOCKTAILS!
CAN I MAKE SODA WATER IN THE SQUAREONE®?
- The SquareOne® can store and dispense beer, wine, cocktails, and sodas. It helps maintain carbonation in already-carbonated drinks. However, it is not a soda maker — it cannot fully carbonate a flat beverage. Beverages typically stay fresh for up to two weeks.
CAN I FERMENT HOMEBREWED BEER/KOMBUCHA IN THE KEG?
- We have heard of many customers successfully utilizing their kegs for home brew setups. However, we would not recommend fermenting beverages in the keg, such as beer/kombucha, as the pressure fluctuations could damage the components if not monitored.
WILL PULP IN MY BEVERAGE CAUSE AN ISSUE?
- We recommend limiting pulp, as large amounts can cause clogs. Light pulp (common in fruit juices) usually works fine. Clean the tap thoroughly after sugary beverages.
CAN YOU FILL THE KEG WITH BOTTLED/CANNED BEVERAGES?
- Yes. You can also take your keg to a local brewery that does growler fills. After filling with your chosen beverage, use CO₂ to maintain carbonation. Allow the keg to settle before tapping and start with low PSI.
WHAT DO I NEED TO STORE WINE OR NON–CARBONATED DRINKS?
- If you are looking for wine capabilities, the main difference would be the gas cartridge being used. The SquareOne® Bundle comes with CO2 gas cartridges. The SquareOne-Vino® Bundle is the same keg/taps and comes with argon gas cartridges instead of CO2, which is what you would use for non-carbonated beverages, such as wine. Argon does not infuse the beverage with any bubbles/carbonation.
5. Maintenance & Cleaning
HOW DO YOU CLEAN SQUAREONE?
- Use hot water and a dash of dish soap. Rinse SquareOne and all tap components thoroughly (excluding the regulator).
- Do not submerge the regulator in water.
WHAT IS THE BLACK RUBBER COVER FOR?
- The black rubber cover goes over the faucet spout in the refrigerator to prevent drips. A slight drip is normal due to pressure. Use the included drip cap between pours.
WHAT ARE THE EXTRA O-RINGS AND GASKETS FOR?
- They are strictly backups, and you will likely never need them.
6. Shipping & Other
DOES SQUAREKEG™ SHIP INTERNATIONAL?
- Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to ship internationally, as gas cartridges cannot be shipped via air freight. We can ship all other items! But you would need to source gas cartridges locally.
